Benjamin Benioff

Benjamin Benioff, born 12 or 21 May 1877, in Russia, probably around Ignatovka, was the son of Isaac Benioff and his first wife, Molly Bryness.

He came to the US in 1888 or 1889. His wife Rose Buddish came in 1893.

He completed his petition for naturalization in NYC on 20 Mar 1900 at the age of 22.

He became a furrier, like his father,  grandfather and siblings. Most likely he was named after his grandfather Benjamin.

He married Rose Buddish on 27 February, 1898 in Newark, NJ. They had two sons:  Robert (1899-1967) and Lester (1906-1976), both born in NYC.

He owned and operated Benioff Furs at 336 Sixth Ave, near 21st St. in NYC. He was involved in many real estate transactions in NY. At one point he was the proprietor of a store called Sallies Modewear.

In the 1915 NYC directory he is president of the W Breinas Co. and living in Yonkers. (I imagine Breinas was named after his mother or maybe there were Breinas relatives nearby.)

In 1931, Benjamin and his wife spent the winter in Miami at the “All Corners Apartment”.

1943 he is in the Spokane, Washington, City Directory, living with Rose and son Lester at W 309 Cotta Ave., working at the Fred Benioff Company located at N115 Wall.

Eventually they moved to Los Angeles where Benjamin died 14 Dec 1964 of bronchopneumonia at the Beverly Palms Convalescent Hospital. Rose died two years later Feb 26, 1966.
